I
follow many celebrities on all my social networks so at first it was a bit hard
for me to actually differentiate between a celebrity and an influencer. I have
learned that an influencer is someone who uses a certain medium (in this
instance Twitter and Instagram) to pursued decisions without actually forcing
it .Influencers also have a large number of followers on social media. A
celebrity is then someone who is famous for the role they play in media be it
acting, singing or television. I have complied a list of people I think are
influencers and you should also follow;
- Khaya Dlanga is a senior Communications exec at Coca-Cola. He has won several advertising awards including the Gold Cannes Lion and also been awarded an honorary membership at the University of the Witwatersrand Chapter’s Golden Key Award. He is also an author and has published the books The Youngster; My arrogant opinion, To Quote Myself. Lastly he is also columnist for the Mail & Guardian and has his own blog Khaya Dlanga’s Life on the Internet. I think this country needs more people like Khaya who are strongly opinionated and stand firm by their opinions. The Media and Marketing 2008 listed Khaya as one of 100 most influential people in the marketing industry. He has a large following on Twitter with over 190 k followers.

He is well known for his extravagant personality and life style. He is proud of his sexuality which is being gay and stands up for gay rights in this country. - Lastly I've listed Barry Bateman.. You might be wondering why him. Well Barry was the 1st person to tweet or rather report about the whole Oscar Pistorious shooting in February 2013. Barry is a senior reporter for Eyewitness news. During the Oscar trial he was the man to follow on Twitter with minute by minute updates on what was transpiring in court. He is always tweeting news that is happening in and around the country and is very influential. Barry uses Twitter to update his followers on what they might be probably be missing out.

Its believe interesting that there's a difference between a celebrity and an 'influencer". But i personally think that there are people who actually have both qualities. Such people who actually have a huge influence in the public, in order for them to make sales or sell products. but i like how you broke it down and gave us examples.
ReplyDeleteYes after writing this article I realised also that there is a very thin line between the two and I totally agree with you as to finding people who have both celebtrity and influencer qualities .
DeleteI for one chose to go the international route, but it is amazing to see that South Africa has great influencers. I learnt something new, and it goes to show that education is an ongoing process that never ends.
